Resolve local hostnames / local DNS via USG60W
Hi all,
quick one as I am not perfectly whether this can be done at all with this router:
I have a variety of devices on a subnet (wifi and cable), no issues so far. However, as I haven't set up any local DNS as of now, the hosts only can communicate via their IPs.
Is there a way to have the USG60W do local DNS so that e.g. "ping hostname" works on the local network?
Thanks!
B

Hi @Ben434,
Couple settings combined could achieve.
Only recommend for small scale network (<=15 devices), acceptable effort to maintain.
1.Configure stable static DHCP IPs for devices
- Edit the interface of devices located
- Add IP address and MAC address of devices into static DHCP table
2.Configure domain name of USG
- On System -> Host Name, key in a domain name.
- USG DHCP service will offer the Domain Name as DNS suffix for clients
3.Add hostname into DNS for devices
- On System -> DNS, add hostname & IP of devices into Address/PTR Record table
Then you can ping hostname to test.
